Maryscott O'Connor
Maryscott O'Connor (born April 29, 1968), aka MSOC, is the founder and main author of My Left Wing, a left-wing weblog focusing on progressive, liberal and Democratic Party politics.
Describing herself as "A Radical Leftist Liberal Socialist Commie Feminist Pinko from Hell," Maryscott O'Connor writes in an intensely passionate, personal, earthy, colloquial style and often draws on incidents from her own life to explain and dramatize her opinions.
She first came to prominence in 2004 as a voluntary contributor to DailyKos, one of the Internet's most popular political discussion forums, where her diaries (as voluntary contributions are called on DailyKos) sometimes attracted hundreds of comments at a time when this was still unusual on the site. Some of her diaries were promoted to the DailyKos front page, and the combined exposure of her front-paged stories, diaries and frequent comments brought her to the attention of the national press. She was banned from Daily Kos in 2007, ostensibly because she posted copyrighted material, though she had permission to post it; the real reason she was banned was simply that Markos had had enough of her agitating on his site.
O'Connor is a regularly featured guest on The John Gibson Show, a talk-radio program syndicated by Fox News, and has appeared on Gibson's Fox News television show, The Big Story. In April 2006 she was the subject of a front-page feature article in the Washington Post, by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist David Finkel.
O'Connor presently lives in Los Angeles, California.
