In Unix computing, Blackbox is a window manager for the X Window System. It is minimalist and therefore popular among those seeking a fast, clean and light environment.

Blackbox has specific design goals in mind, and some functionality is provided only through other applications. One example is the bbkeys hotkey application.

Blackbox is written in C++[4][5] and contains completely original code. [6]

Blackbox was created by Bradley T. Hughes[7] and is available under the MIT License.

There are several window managers based on Blackbox[8]:

Windows shell replacements

Although they share no code, these projects are also inspired by blackbox.
