Shivkar Bapuji Talpade a Maharashtrian, Pāṭhāre Prabhu community member was the first Indian to fly a space ship in the year 1895. [1] He stayed at Dukur Wadi, Chirrah Bazzar, Mumbai (Bombay). He was a scholar in Sanskrit literature and Vedas. [2]

Shivkar Bapuji Talpade, is claimed to have made Marutsakha, the first plane in the history of the modern world, using the knowledge of Rig Veda. According to P Satwelkar, one of Talpade's Student, the unmanned plane flew a few minutes and came down. Wright brothers designed their aircraft studying the movements of bird, but Shivkar Bapuji Talpade used solar energy principle with mercury to design his plane.[3]
