Bukit View Secondary School
Template:Infobox Singapore School Bukit View Secondary School or BtVSS/ BVSS (simplified Chinese: 百德中学; traditional Chinese: 百德中學; pinyin: Băidé Zhōngxué) is a government secondary school in Bukit Batok, Singapore. The abbreviation BtVSS was created for the school to prevent constant confusion between the school and Bedok View Secondary School since both share the same abbreviation of BVSS in official records.
Located in Bukit Batok Street 21, construction of the school started in 1984 and was completed in December 1985. The school started functioning with 450 Secondary One and Two students and a teaching staff of 15 in January 1986 with Mr Ow Chiong Hoo heading the school. It was officially opened by Mr Chai Chong Yii, then the MP for Bukit Batok in July 1988.
Mrs Mary Owyong was the second Principal from December 1996 to February 1998.
From August 1998 to 14 December 2004, Mr James Ong Chye Hin was the third Principal. Under Mr Ong, the school underwent a major reform to change it's image as well as it's students. By 2004, students' discipline has gone considerably better. As Mr Ong left in 2004, only the current batch of Secondary 4 Express and 5 Normal students have actually experienced him as their principal. Therefore, much is unknown about him by most of the current school pupils.
Mrs Tan Lay Hong was appointed Principal with effect from 15 December 2004, though officially introduced to the students only during January 2005. In 2006, under Mrs Tan, the school decided to go through the MOE (Ministry of Education) PRIME project, which is the government's project to renovate schools built earlier than 1996 or so. The school also took this opportunity when it is undergoing change to re brand the school.
The school building consist of the New Block, Old Block, Technical Block and School Hall/Canteen. The New Block contains the new library, professional sharing room and computer labs. The Old Block is currently undergoing PRIME. The Technical Block, after PRIME completion in December 2006 contains, Chemistry, Biology and Physics Labs, F&N department and the D&T department. The School Hall/Canteen currently contains the hall and canteen and various CCA rooms.
Currently, the key offices in the school are held by Mrs Tan Lay Hong, the Principal, Mr Loh Chu Yin, Vice-Principal (Instructional Programme) and Miss Sharmila Gopal, Vice-Principal (Student Development). Also the school's PRIME is mid-way through, with the school hall/canteen and the New Block completed. The Old Block was handed over to the contractor and is still being renovated as of 31 August 2007.
One will be able to access the school by taking an MRT train, alighting at Bukit Batok Station (NS2). From there, one can either walk to the school or taking bus 173 from Bukit Batok Bus Interchange, alighting at the fifth stop.
