Some Hearts is the debut album from fourth-season American Idol winner Carrie Underwood, released in the United States on November 15, 2005. It has been certified six times platinum in the U.S. (RIAA) and platinum in Canada (CRIA). On December 4, 2006, Some Hearts was named the number-one selling album of the year in all genres at the Billboard Music Awards.

History

Some Hearts debuted at number two on the U.S. Billboard 200, selling more than 315,000 copies; it was the third best first-week sales for any American Idol contestant (behind Ruben Studdard's Soulful and Clay Aiken's Measure of a Man, which sold over 400,000 copies and 600,000 copies, respectively, in their first weeks). The album debuted at number two on the United World Chart.

In the week of December 25, 2006, the album's fifty-eighth week on the chart, the album rose back up to number four on the Billboard 200 chart after selling close to 300,000 copies.

As of August 12, 2007, the album had sold 5,850,209 copies in the U.S.[citation needed]

RIAA certifications

American Idol

With its six times platinum certification, Some Hearts is the best-selling US album from any American Idol finalist, and the highest selling country debut album of the Nielsen SoundScan era. Some Hearts was the first album to be certified six times platinum in 2007, and it is tied with Kelly Clarkson's 2004 album Breakaway as the highest certified album by an American Idol contestant. Some Hearts was the third best selling album of 2006, and the best selling album of the Billboard magazine year (November 14, 2005November 12, 2006). The album had sold around 5.8 million copies as of July 2007. Worldwide sales are at seven million,[citation needed] which makes it the second best selling worldwide album by an American Idol contestant (second to Kelly Clarkson's Breakaway).

Singles

Carrie Underwood's American Idol single "Inside Your Heaven", which debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 five months before the release of Some Hearts, is included on the album as a bonus track. The first single from the album, "Jesus, Take the Wheel", was number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Songs chart for six consecutive weeks and reached number twenty on the Billboard Hot 100. "Some Hearts", a cover of the Marshall Crenshaw song, was released to pop and adult contemporary radio only and eventually reached number twelve on the Adult Contemporary chart. "Don't Forget to Remember Me" was the third single from the album, and also proved successful, reaching number one on the Radio & Records Country Chart, number two on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, and number forty-nine on the Hot 100. "Before He Cheats" was released as the next single, and climbed the charts faster than any of Underwood's other singles, making it into the top twenty of the Hot Country Songs chart before the release of a music video. "Before He Cheats" subsequently peaked at number one on the Hot Country Songs chart for five consecutive weeks, and at number eight on the Hot 100; it proved to be a huge crossover hit, making appearances in the top twenty of every chart on which it appeared, and it is the biggest hit overall from the album. "Wasted" also proved another successful hit for Underwood by peaking at number one for three consecutive weeks on the Hot Country Songs chart, and going to number thirty-seven on the Hot 100.
