My archives

Just a heads up, I have blocked this user. You might take a look at the post at WP:ANI for my reasoning. Perhaps after this block he will cease the confrontations. Be sure and look carefully at all of his contributions too. --JodyB yak, yak, yak 16:46, 14 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I blocked him for 72 hours this time. He's been blocked twice before by other admins for 48 hours. This diff in its contect is quite racial and cannot be allowed. He has been encouraged and warned repeatedly. --JodyB yak, yak, yak 16:54, 14 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Prior to coming off of his last block and tried to work with him and encourage him to conduct himself in a more civil manner. In spite of the fact he was blocked for 3rr he always refused to acknowledge anything was wrong except people who were out to get him. His block ended and he soon was telling me that Edward was after him. I investigated and could find nothing - a finding others made as well [1] He soon replied that this so-called vandalism was over one single sentence. His claim every time is that he has done nothing wrong. --JodyB yak, yak, yak 17:00, 14 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the heads up. Looks like he's done quite a bit more than claim ownership while I was gone. Again, thanks for keeping me informed and for heliping resolve this unpleasant little mess. Edward321 00:21, 15 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The Original Barnstar
In addition to my thanks, I'd like to add this for your careful examination of the evidence and your willingness to publically support the unjustly accused. Edward321 00:33, 15 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ouch, I didn't know he had treated you that badly. Still, I shouldn't be surprised, he called me a racist and said I was sick because I'm a fan of alternate history. Edward321 00:35, 15 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Now that Scipio is blocked from editing he's sending me emails. Fortunately filters can drop him in the appropriate folder unread, though I have kept them as evidence should that be needed. Edward321 13:56, 16 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again!

I'm sorry; I haven't been on Wikipedia in ages! I should probably start looking for things to do or ask you about...

So'd you hear about Fox News's little forays into the wiki? FARK.com had a lot to say about it; what did you think about it?

Congratulations on the barnstar, by the way; you deserve it.

Adoption request

Hi Darthgriz, I'm Dario from Italy, joined Wikipedia just yesterday... I'm new and lonely :P, and I just came across this page... will you adopt me? :) *angelic eyes* --Outspan 21:03, 19 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Great :) Yeah, ELP rule ;) So, I have a lot of questions... first of all,
  1. Thanks for adopting me! ;)
  2. Should I always reply you in your own talk page, is that what everyone does? Is there a more convenient way to keep track of conversations?
  3. Earlier I was trying to improve this article, and to do so I had to upload a picture via Commons even though the Italian article already has that picture. For some reason I couldn't use the same picture; but uploading it twice seems a waste to me! How can I give uploaded pictures a global scope, and how is it determined?
  4. Noticed you have a personal picture on your user page; I thought uploads were restricted to encyclopedic material only ;). So I can just upload a not-particularly-useful-for-the-purposes-of-Wiki pic via Commons, as long as it's licensed properly? And finally, what's the difference between Commons and this?
Thanks a lot for your patience -- I'll try not to be this annoying in the future ;) --Outspan 22:03, 19 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks -- [[w::it:Immagine:Politecnico_di_Torino_-_Logo.png | the image I was talking about]] was uploaded on the Italian wiki, so I guess the best thing to do would be to upload the pic via Commons, change both the Italian and the English image links, and finally propose the `Italian` image for deletion? How do I do the latter? And why the hell does each local wiki have different policies on so many things?! :) -- Outspan [talk · contribs] 07:35, 21 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Another possible choice would be to write something like [[w::it:Immagine:<image name>]] and so on... which is the best option? thanks :) -- Outspan [talk · contribs] 12:08, 21 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Reminder to Mentor

Hola Mentors!

Im sending you this reminder because you volunteered to mentor my students in English Advanced B as they become contributing members of the Wikipedia community. We start working with Wikipedia in earnest next week. I ask you to take a look at your entry in the Mentor Table at Wikipedia:School_and_university_projects/ITESM_Campus_Toluca/Mentors

Please update the information, esp. with what your technical and informational expertise is or, if you have decided that you no longer want to participate, please remove your information from the table. Please watch the pages associated with the project. Students will contact you via your user page and as soon as my students have user pages, I will put them on the navigation bar associated with the project.

I don’t need to remind you that your job is NOT to write their assignments for them, of course. I certainly will tell my students that… and the fact that you are volunteers that don’t have to help them… so they need to be nice. If any students misbehave (tho I don’t expect it) don’t hesistate to contact me and I will take care of it. The goal of this project is to integrate successfully into the Wikipedia community. Anyway… what I really need your help with is helping students get oriented to Wikipedia, make appropriate changes and write about appropriate topics (see Wikipedia:School_and_university_projects/ITESM_Campus_Toluca/Syllabus for assignments). I also need your technical expertise… I am only an English teacher after all! I appreciate what technology does for us but I am no technical expert!

Again, thank you for volunteering and you will hear from us again soon! Thelmadatter 19:40, 28 August 2007 (UTC)Thelmadatter[reply]

The Alternative music WikiProject Newsletter
Issue 5 - August 2007
"The amount of time it took to get Morrissey onstage was getting longer and longer. There was this great game he'd play of wanting to be asked 15 times if it had been 14 the night before. Johnny was like, 'Let's rock!' and Mozzer would be 'Well, somebody's gotta ask me another seven times.'" - Andy Rourke

Questions about templates ;)

Hi Darthgriz:), I was wondering if you could answer some questions about templates [I assume 'infoboxes' are part of the family too]. Some days ago I was trying to edit an article about a city and wanted to use an infobox, but found it hard to understand what are the parameters used and what their effect is. So, later on I found about about the en.wikipedia.org/Template:<temp name> pages, but unluckily only a very few of them are actually documented... why is that? Isn't documenting them something that could dramatically add value to their usability, or am I missing something? ;) What's the standard way to use a template that is not documented? I assumed the best way was to pick a page that already has it and just adapt the code, but of course that's not the way to use them at best. If you tell me it could make a difference I could try documenting a few. Thanks, bye ;) -- Outspan [talk · contribs] 11:29, 12 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I was trying to use the infobox on Barbens which is for the Missing Article project. You see, it's hard to know what are the parameters used. Right now to do so you have to view the source to find what the name of the template is, then go to the relative template page (Template:Infobox catalan municipio), view *that* source to find what the parameters are, and finally use the parameters without a precise idea of what's going to happen unless you've already seen it in another article. I guess documenting would be a good thing then ;) --Outspan [talk · contribs] 14:31, 12 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
