Guilford High School is a four-year public high school in Guilford, Connecticut, which has renown and prestige for its excellent college preparatory program. According to the school website, College Board Scholastic Assessment Test and Connecticut Academic Performance Tests results for GHS students are consistently above state, regional and national averages. Guilford High School students have won many regional and national awards in the academic and creative arts fields.

There is a full range of co-curricular activities offered to the student at Guilford High School, including National Honor Society, Student Senate, yearbook, service organizations and language and literary clubs. The sports teams, who receive wide community support, include soccer, football, baseball, basketball, lacrosse, ice hockey, field hockey, fencing, wrestling, softball, tennis, volleyball, cross country, track and golf. Acclaimed music, art and drama programs round out the varied experiences available to Guilford High School students.

The motto and philosophy of GHS is as follows: Guilford High School is a community that strives for excellence in learning through mutual respect and responsibility. Guilford believes that the aim of education at the high school is to help prepare young people to assume a meaningful and productive role in an adult society. To achieve this goal, which is a responsibility shared by the board of education, staff, students, parents, and community, it subscribes to the philosophy that students should:

· Learn through diversified programs that meet their individual abilities, aspirations, needs and learning styles;

· Reach their highest capabilities in a climate where learning is a shared process among teachers, students, parents, and community;

· Develop habits of lifelong learning;

· Develop self esteem, an appreciation of diversity, an appreciation of the worth of others, and understand their shared responsibility for their educational progress;

· Mature into independent, reasoning individuals who can make responsible decisions and adapt to an ever changing world.
