Toronto Motorsports Park

Toronto Motorsports Park is a drag racing drag strip which also has a 2.35 kilometer roadcourse racing facility in Haldimand County, near the town of Cayuga, Ontario, Canada..

History

The park started in 1955. In 1960, the track was converted to its present day form and the first drag races were performed in 1968. During the year 2001, the track's name was changed from Dragway Park to Toronto Motorsports Park.

The track is currently owned by Uli Bieri of Bieri Auto in Scarborough, Ontario, Canada.

It currently holds the IHRA ACDelco Canadian Nationals which attracts hundreds of cars from around Canada and the U.S.

Road Course

A road course was added to the facility in the year 2000 directly beside the drag racing track. The two straights (between corners 11b and 1) and (between corners 1 and 2) were formerly small airplane runways.

The road course is 2.35km in length (measured using a calibrated civil engineering measuring device), flat, with no elevation changes.

Motorcyclists lobbying track owner to make safety improvements

Local motorycling groups are currently lobbying the owner to make safety improvements to the road course to improve safety for motorcyclists, who use the track regularily during the summer motorcycle riding and racing season.

Areas that require attention are the runoff areas outside of turns 1, 2 and 3, and the final double apex corners 11a and 11b.

Motorcyclist safety concerns about the double apex turns 11a and 11b centre on the largely unprotected concrete wall separating the racing surface from the pitlane/paddock. The concrete wall, being directly beside the racing surface leaves no room for error at the last corner, and could result in serious injury should any motorcyclist fall in the last corner and strike the wall.

Up to this point, the owner of the track has been reluctant to make any safety improvements at the track, siting costs as a concern.
