Sandy Olsson is a fictional character in the movie Grease, which is a film adaptation of the stage musical, Grease. The character of the film was played by Olivia Newton-John as wholesome and naive. Her origins are markedly different from those of Sandra Dumbrowski, the character of the stage musical upon which she is based. Sandy comes from Australia and appears to be only temporarily resident in the U.S., while the character in the stage musical was an American citizen of Polish extraction. Sandy first meets Danny Zuko at the beach where she tells him that she must return to Australia. However her family's plans change and she attends Rydell High School as a foreign student.

Outside the house, at night, by herself, she made up the song, "Hopelessly Devoted to You", and when she looked in the small pool that inflates, she reflects herself and thinks about Danny, and when she moves the paper cloth across the surface, Danny disappears from her reflection. In the end, a greatly changed Sandy and Danny fly away from the carnival at Rydell High in his racing car, turning the film into a fantasy. She does not appear in the film Grease 2 but is mentioned by Frenchy when she meet Sandy's cousin (Michael Carrington playing an exchange student). Michael's response indicates that Sandy is back in Australia.
