M1 road (Australia)

The M1 is designated stretches of National Highway 1 (A1) that are of; Dual-carriageway, freeway or Motorway Standard.

Such stretches of highway are:

• Queensland
  • Bruce Highway from Cooroy to Bald Hills.
  • Gateway Motorway from Bald Hills to Eight Mile Plains.
  • Pacific Motorway from Eight Mile Plains to the New South Wales Border, linking 'directly' with the Tweed Heads bypass. The Tugun Bypass is opening for traffic in 2008 [1].

• New South Wales
  • As of today, 40% or 260 kilometres of the Pacific Highway is dual carriageway (construction is underway for a further 10% or 78 kms of dual carriageway) [2] in the following section(s);
    • Brisbane-Ewingsdale Interchange (Byron Bay exit) - Except for a 2.5km section at Sextons Hill that is not freeway standard, but still 4 lanes [3] [4] (Blue section on Map).
    • North Urunga to Coffs Harbour (bypassing Bonville) [5] - Coffs Harbour provides 4 lanes, not of freeway standard, planning is underway for a dual carriageway bypass of Coffs Harbour [6].
    • Eungai deviation dual carriageway (north of Kempsey) [7]
    • Herons Creek to Oxley Highway Interchange (Port Macquarie exit) [8].
    • North Coopernook to Herons Creek - Construction underway [9][10]
    • North of Bulahdelah to North Coopernook (Blue section on Map).
    • Bulahdelah bypass/upgrade - Planning approval granted on 9 July, 2007 [11] [12] [13]

• • • Sydney to south of Bulahdelah [17] - Except for a 12km section at Hexham that is not freeway standard, but still 4 lanes [18].
  • Sydney-Newcastle Freeway (Also known as the F3)
  • Southern Freeway (Also known as the F6)
    • Waterfall to Yellah.

  • Princes Highway from:
    • Traralgon to Berwick.
  • Monash Freeway from:
    • Berwick to Melbourne.
  • CityLink (southern link section):
    • Central Melbourne (through Domain and Burnley Tunnels).
  • West Gate Freeway from:
    • Melbourne to West Gate Interchange.
  • Princes Freeway from:
    • West Gate Interchange to Geelong.

• South Australia
  • South-Eastern Freeway from:
    • Murray Bridge to Crafers
  • Adelaide-Crafers Highway from:
    • Crafters to Adelaide.
