Falguni Pathak

Falguni Pathak is a Hindi singer and performing artist from India. She was born in Baroda [Vadodara,Gujarat] and now after marriage, she is based in Mumbai (formerly known as Bombay, but with a strong affinity towards the traditional music of the Indian state of Gujarat, she has, since her professional debut in 1998, developed into a leading Indian pop personality sometimes called the "Queen of Dandiya". [1]

She has claimed in interviews that she became a singer "by default", having had no particular aspirations in that direction. Indeed, when she performed in public for the first time at the age of nine, her father made no secret of his disapproval, so much so that he beat her.[citation needed] Nevertheless, having won him over, she was performing regularly from the age of ten.

Her debut album was released in 1998, and was the first of at least a dozen bearing her name. She has also recorded numerous songs that have featured in Bollywood movies. She has performed in many shows, Number of her shows has been through out the night, both in India and other countries. A powerful vocalist and energetic performer, backed by a band (called Ta Thaiyaa) that can number up to eighteen members, she regularly blends traditional styles with a more modern approach.

She has been popular in India as she entertains Indians in nearly 10 pious days of Indian Hindus known as Navratri (Nine nights). The last month of Hindu year is known as "Ashwin" or "Aaso". Hindu months are divided in two fortnights. The first fortnight with moon exposing more and more every day is known as "Shukla Paksh" and following fortnight when moon gradually exposes lesser day by day is known as "Krishna Paksha". The first nine days of 1st fortnight (Shukla Paksh) of Ashwin are observed as "Navratri". During these days, people worship Mother Goddess known as "Amba". People during night engage in traditional folk dance singing hymns to please Mother Goddess. The traditional hymns are known as "Garba" and so the folk dance at tunes of hymns is also known as "Garba". The folk dance using steps with beating two sticks are known as "Dandiya Raas" as the sticks are called "Dandiya". The performance of Falguni Pathak is just superb.
