Story

Nina Yamada is your typical 12 year old 7th grade who dreams about a boy who is strong, handsome, and kind enough to protect herself. One faithful day, Nina had "accidentally" swallowed a Crystal Pearl which she assumed was candy. But the Crystal Pearl was the goal of a sorcery examination, so Nina is the new Crystal Pearl to be targeted by many probationer sorcerers for half a year. It just so happened that within this whole mix up, she meets two wizard boys named Zero and Ichii and come to a conclusion that they would protect her until the potion was made to remove it from her. However, this potion will have to take about the entire 6 months of the exam. Protecting Nina wherever she goes...at school and at home. This is a romantic comedy shōjo manga warmed up by Zero & Ichii, the boys who protect Nina and their other rivals: examinees for the Magical Exam. Examinees like San & Forte, Go & Rokka, and so on.

Characters

Nina Yamada (山田二菜(ニナ), Yamada Nina)
Voiced by: Yui Shoji
Nina is a 7th grader girl with an aggressive character. She is targeted by many sorcerer examinees because she accidentally swallowed the crystal pearl which, in this case they need that pearl to pass their exam to become a professional wizards. Contacting with Zero and Ichii as Guardian, Nina began to change her mind about them. Her hobby is to stretch, or do sit-ups.
Her name is similar to the Japanese word for the number "two" which is "Ni". "Na" just means "name".
Nina is apparently extremely bad at all forms of housework, although she does not seem to realize this.

But in the end she realizes that she likes Zero.

The examinees

Zero (ゼロ, Zero)
Voiced by: Miki Ōtani
Left handed. He is very obnoxious and often insults Nina by calling her a "baka" or "dobe" meaning a fool or an idiot. However, he truly wants to protect her but he never really shows it. His specialty is "destruction magic".
His name means "zero" in Japanese as well.
Ichii (イチイ, Ichii)
Voiced by: Ryota Nakamura
He is kinder than Zero and is kinder to Nina. He had a rough past, but opened up more ever since that day he met Zero, approximately three years ago. His speciality is "protection magic".
His name means "one".
He is two years older than Nina.

The competitors

Forte Xerardo (フォルテ・シェラルド, Forute Sherarudo)
Voiced by: Noriko Namiki
His specialty is hypnotism and he can control enemies by playing his flute. He is from a noble family in Magic Society. His partner, Sun, is his cousin. Forte is also usually ruled over by Sun, often resulting in petty arguments between the two. He often wears girl clothes because Sun makes him wear it.
Forte is often called "For-chan", so his name (distantly) means "four".
Sun Xerardo (サン・シェラルド, San Sherarudo)
Voiced by: Momoko Saitō
She is an innocent, but sometimes cruel girl. Her specialty is summoning; she can summon a cat with unbelievably long legs or a giant bird. She has extremely strong magic power, and she was hated by her family from when she was very young. Her mother died from an illness from when she was a child and thus was blamed for her mother's death. She only trusts Forte who always had been protecting her.
Her name is very similar to "san", which is the Japanese word for "three".
Rokka (ロッカ, Rokka)
Voiced by: Sakura Nogawa
She is a 5 year old girl, but she can transform into a grown-up lady. She fell in love with Ichii when she was lost in strange city and helped by him. When Nina first saw her kiss Ichii, she was upset. She often tries to do harm to Nina. Once she even turned Nina in to a baby so Zero and Ichii could not recognize her. And she also had prepared a love potion to cast on Ichii, but Nina accidently poured the potion into a pot full of curry by mistaking it as salt and made everyone except for Ichii and Rokka fall in love with her.
Her name sounds like a feminine version of "roku", the Japanese word for "six".
Gou (ゴウ, Gōu)
Voiced by: Yukari Kokubun
His specialty is phantom magic. He is a servant of Rokka and always watching over her. He is the only person who can chide Rokka.
His name literally means "five".
In POP5, It is revealed that Gōu collects bonsai trees.
