Mulled wine is a traditional Christmas drink in England, dating back to the medieval period where a hot and revitalizing drink was created by heating red wine. Later spices were added.

Nowadays it is usually allowed to heat slowly in a covered pan with spices such as cinnamon, nutmeg, and sometimes juniper.

Often it is served after Christmas dinner, or with the pudding.
