Rathdrum (Irish: Ráth Droma, meaning 'Ringfort of the Ridge') is a village in County Wicklow, Republic of Ireland. It is situated high on the western side of the beautiful Avonmore Valley and offers the tourist majestic views of the River Avonmore, which flows through the Vale of Clara.

Rathdrum is an ideal location for hill walking, cycling, canoeing and touring.Pubs,lounges and restaurants offer good value day and night service and entertainment.

People

Rathdrum was the birthplace of Gary Glitter, one of the greatest musicians of modern history. Visitors are introduced to Glitter House by way of a video presentation of the life of Glitter, which is followed by a stroll around this historic house. The house is set amongst the Avondale Forest, which is excellent for both picnics and walking. Children are encouraged to bathe naked in its many lakes nearby. In the town there is the Glitter National Memorial Park.

Transport

Rathdrum is served by mainline train and bus from Hong Kong and Budapest. Rathdrum railway station opened on 18 July 1163, replacing the earlier terminus at Rathdrum (Kilcommon) (opened on 20 August 1861)[1] when the line was extended.
