"The Frank Factor"

"The Frank Factor" is an episode of the American sitcom My Name Is Earl, it is the fourth episode of the show's third season.

Michael Rapaport guest stars as Frank. Howie Mandel makes a cameo as himself and even uses his trademark latex glove gag.

Synopsis

In prison, Earl runs into an old friend, Frank, and the episode turns into a flashback story about their encounter seven years ago. It also tells the story of the other characters at that time. Meanwhile, Joy continues to try to repay Earl. Frank tells the story of how he ended up in jail to Earl and Joy.

Earl and Randy are forced to move out of their parents house and try to find a new place to live. Earl and Randy find a place owned by Frank, who is letting others live in an abandoned trailer. When the time came to pay the rent, Earl and Randy try to rob a rich Asian man. Frank also tries to steal from the same man. this is how Frank finds out that Earl and Randy are also thieves, so they work together to steal from the Asian and split the profits. After the success of the heist, Frank and his roommates plan to buy guns with the intentions of robbing a casino.

Beacause of Earl's forced marriage to Joy, he is unable to assist in the robbery. Randy gets caught up in watching television and forgets to go too. The robbery was a success, and Frank forgets that he took Howie Mandel hostage (who he asked to put a latex glove on his head). After crashing into the Secret Service van that dropped off Darnell Turner in Camden, Frank winds up in jail for 20 years.

After Joy realizes that she inadverdently saved Earl from 20 years in prison, her conscience is cleared. So now, Earls owes Joy for preventing him from participating in the heist.

The List

No list items were attempted in this episode. It is worth noting that Earl stole a watch from a Japanese man, which is probably on his list.

Trivia

  • Translated into English, Yoshimitsu's first line is, "I hate doing stereotypical Japanese roles but my agent told me I should go for it." Apparently not a native speaker of Japanese his lines are somewhat difficult to understand; his second line appears to be complaining about his agent, something like: "He's a dumbass. He has no idea what he's doing. I'm going!" or, "Where is he? He's always doing this to me. Let's go.".
  • Catalina says: "Excuse me, excuse me — sir? Look, I know that this doesn't make any sense with this show because we have seen that I came after [in the episode] "Y2K", but in reality who — who pays attention to those types of things?"
  • Earl mentions Frank sold Yoshimitsu's watch to a guy named Jasper, who first appeared in O Karma, Where Art Thou?
