Propaganda

  • Mergist extremism hurts Wikipedia - Mergists claim article proliferation makes Wikipedia "harder to navigate and more difficult to organize", but the answer is hypertext, they don't call this the World Wide Web for nothing. Why should a reader have to scroll through a long article about several related, yet distinct subjects when they ought to be able to follow a link straight to what they need. Merging has its place, but use common sense. Stubs are not evil.
  • Don't redirect mispelings - It is not very obvious when someone is redirected, so if I type in Potatoe and an article pops up I'll never know I spelled it wrong. A tool for learning should not accommodate the perpetuation of ignorance. Spelling suggestion will eventually be added to the MediaWiki software but we shouldn't make a mess of the database now. A spell checker won't work very well when every misspelling corresponds to an actual article.

I quit
I remember when I used to just come here for the info. Then one day I saw it, or rather, didn't see it in this case. A missing apostrophe, which I then proceeded to fix, anonymously. Then I realized my kids would someday be using this encyclopedia so I wanted to have some input in it's creation. Fast-forward to today. I didn't notice it was happening, but here I am, refreshing my watchlist multiple times in the span of a minute. I've become addicted.

So as of right now I'm done. Cold turkey. No more watchlist, no more VFD, no more being an editor. In the short time that I've been here I've already become jaded. I'm amazed at how long some editors have been here, but I'm not that masochistic. Save yourself. Hit the back button, delete the bookmark, turn off your computer. Whatever you do, just don't add that apostrophe. —TeknicTalk/Mail 10:03, 15 May 2005 (UTC)
