Ska Studios is an independent game developer originally founded by James Silva in 2001 as Totally Screwed Software, before changing their name in 2005 to Ska Software, then again in 2007 to Ska Studios.

They're well-known in indie gaming as having games that utilize graphic cartoon violence. Earlier in the companies existnece they often payed tribute to the retro gaming scene with the first two entries of the Zombie Smashers X series paying tribute to River City Ransom and Blood Zero being a tribute to Zelda.

Their most recent and notable award came from Microsoft who held a Dream-Build-Play contest where independent developers were challenged to use the XNA Game Studio software to create a game and whomever created the best one would get a publishing contract to have the game distributed on Xbox Live Arcade. James Silva tied in first place with his game The Dishwasher: Dead Samurai beating out over 4,500 other entrants from over 100 countries.[8][9][10]
