Kalabaydh is a strategic city that links between Tog Wajaale, [Borama]] and the capital city Hargeisa, via Gabiley. Unlike many other towns, its name is given to reflect its location as the triangular city between those aforementioned places.

Historically, it was also famous for its farming, particularly with cereals such as Maze and Sorghum. The inhabitants also raised large number of livestocks such as cattle farms, sheep and goats.

There is a famous location called 'Lafta Nabadeed', named after a historic tree near the water wells of the risindents there. One of the famous people who used to come here quite regularly was Abdillahi Suldaan Timacade who was from Galooley, because he had lots of friends and relatives in Kalabaydh. As a result he read out a few of his peoms here with his friends together with the other two Abdillaahi's.
