The Hi-Point Firearms model JCP is a blowback operated semi-automatic pistol chambered for the popular .40 S&W round used by the FBI, it has a polymer frame like all Hi-Point pistols, it has a 4.5inch barrel and a slide composed of ZAMAK-3.
It features an integral accessory rail for mounting lasers and flashlights on Hi-Point rings, the safety is a combination lever for locking the slide and putting it on safety, the immediate drawbacks of this system is that you can't cock the weapon while having the safety on, the safety locks the trigger and the common misconception is that it only locks the slide.
Criticism
One frequent point of criticism is the substantial size and weight of the weapon. At 32 ounces with a 4.5" barrel, the weapon can be difficult to conceal effectively or safely. Additionally, the physical appearance of the gun has been criticized as unattractive and non-traditional.
The weight issue is not inherently addressable. Blowback action is particularly uncommon with larger calibres as the weight of the breech, and the slide spring tension need to both be high to prevent the action opening too quickly whilst chamber pressures are still high, causing a case rupture, and attendant damage to either the weapon of the shooter.
