GPS Compatibility
Users of this phone have successfully installed and used other GPS map software applications (such as Tracky, iGuidance, TomTom, Garmin Mobile XT, and Google Maps), which do not charge a service fee. The map applications are compatible with the built-in GPS receiver, provided users set the appropriate COM port for the map application. The built-in GPS receiver was intended by wireless providers to be used preferably with Telenav, which is a service that charges users monthly fees or fees based on the amount of downloaded map data. It should be noted that Telenav can only provide map data in areas where applicable cellular phone services are available and that users must have a data plan with their wireless providers.[citation needed]
Unlike its predecessor, the Hermes, this device becomes a GPS navigation system in itself without requiring the use of an external Bluetooth GPS puck or receiver.[4]
Video Driver Issues
TyTN II has video driver issues resulting in poor performance during video playback, gaming and camera usage, comparable with 400-mHz devices released in 2005 or 2006[5][6][7]. The Qualcomm 7200 chipset is fully capable of processing both 2D and 3D graphics with proper framerate[8], but current TyTN II firmware uses a video driver that is not entirely compatible with most of Windows Mobile software. As of 7 December, 2007 HTC has not yet released any information whether a fix is being developed or not, nor admitted the problem.
Possible fixes for the issue are being separately developed by the xda-developers community and by CorePlayer developers. As of 16 December, 2007 BetaBoy of CoreCodec forums has announced that the next release of CorePlayer will have "close to flawless" video playback on TyTN II.[9]
