Dominican Day Parade
The Dominican Day Parade in New York City is a parade that takes place yearly on Sixth Avenue in New York City. Organized by Dominican American community leaders in 1982, as a annual celebration of concerts and cultural events in theWashington Heights section of Manhattan, the parade has grown to become a showcase of national pride with thousands of participants and spectators. Similar parades, but of lesser scale, are held every year in Patterson, New Jersey, Boston, and along the Grand Concourse in The Bronx. The parade, held annually ever August celebrates the Dominican and Dominican American communities and is attended by many celebrities and politicians from the island nation and the United States
Violence
Following the parade there have been reports of attacks upon the NYPD with parade goers throwing glass bottles at offficers. [1]. Individuals were also chased with bats [2] In 2007, there have also been arrests for the stabbing of a man and another 2 individuals hit with bottles. [3][4][5].
