Dr. William George Beers (May 5, 1843- Dec 26, 1900) is sometimes refered to as the "father of modern lacrosse" for his work establishing the first set of playing rules for the game.

By trade Beers was a successful dentist and founder of Canada's first dental journal and was dean of Canada's first dental college. His interest in lacrosse began at age 6 and at the age of 17 he was chosen as a goalkeeper for a Montreal team that played a match before the Prince of Wales.
