Hugh O'Donnell (politician)

Hugh O'Donnell (born 1 May 1952) is a Scottish Liberal Democrat politician, and Member of the Scottish Parliament for the Central Scotland region. He is currently the party's spokesperson on schools.
He was elected for the first time in 2007, following his former employer Donald Gorrie, the former MSP for the same region.
He was educated at Southern Connecticut State University, Queen Margaret College, Edinburgh and Falkirk College of Further Education. Prior to his election he worked as a university lecturer, a constituency assistant to Donald Gorrie MSP, and as a community care professional. He contested the Scottish Parliament election in 1999 for Cumbernauld and Kilsyth. He was one of only eight Scots chosen by the United Nations to supervise the first ever free elections in the former Yugoslavian province of Kosovo in 2001.
He has a particular interest in disability rights issues, minority groups’ rights and social issues. Outside politics, Hugh’s interests are reading, historical research, DIY and Tai Chi. Hugh has been a non-executive director 'Recap' of a recycling charity based in his home town of Cumbernauld since 2002. He is married with one son and one daughter.[1]
