Greg "Turtle" Conescu is an Australian former rugby league footballer. His usual position was at hooker.

Conescu achieved Brisbane Rugby League premiership success with the Norths Devils and also played for Redcliffe Dolphins. Also during this time he made his debut for the Australian Kangaroos and was a regular in the Queensland State of Origin team.

Conescu then entered the New South Wales Rugby League premiership with the Brisbane Broncos, playing in the club's first ever match in 1988. He continued to represent Queensland at State of Origin level that year, and was again selected in the Australian Kangaroos side.

In 2000 Greg was awarded the Australian Sports Medal for his contribution to Australia's international standing in the sport of rugby league.

In retirement, Conescu has also been a successful owner / operator of the up-market 'Turtles Sportspage' bar at Breakfast Creek Wharf in Brisbane. Sadly the Sportspage bar ceased trading in 1998 after former employee and DJ Col Elliot successfully won a $2000 civil suit against Conescu for unfair dismissal. Elliot was controversaly sacked from Turtle's in 1997 after being wrongly accused of groping female patrons and stealing bourbon from the bar. Elliot says his excessive drinking on the job was a result of stress from being underpayed and overworked and from patrons freqeuntly stealing his CD collection. Conescu has been rumored to have taken shelter in the disused clocktower at Breakfast Creek - emerging only at midnight to feast on scraps from Waterside Chinese takeaway and to push a barrel of freshly pumped water into Breakfast Creek from the top of the clock tower.

During the recent drought that gripped Brisbane Conescu was fined considerably for his water wastage. The suburban Quest newspaper 'The Northern News' subsequently broke the story of Conescu's fall from grace. The report sparked community support for Conescu - with the Norths Devils offering him a full-time position as waterboy. Conescu can now be seen regularly pumping fresh water from Schultz Canal on Brisbanes northside to slake the thirst of his beloved devils.
