EllisLab, based in Bend, Oregon, develops software applications written in the PHP programming language. [1] The company is privately owned and has to date accepted no venture capital funding of any kind. Since the company's founding in January of 2002, it has released three different applications to the public. The first, pMachine Pro, was weblog software that had both a free and licensed version, and is no longer developed. It's been completely replaced by ExpressionEngine, although the last version of pMachine Pro continues to be available for free. The second, ExpressionEngine, is a Content Management System written in object-oriented PHP and using MySQL for storing data. It comes in three flavours, a free version named "ExpressionEngine Core" which is free for personal use, and both a "Personal" and "Commercial" version. The underlying code is identical in all cases, although there are a few modules missing from the "Core" version.

The third, CodeIgniter, is an open source rapid application development Framework with particular emphasis on a very small footprint.
