Bob and Cedric are a fictional duo who appeared in several episodes of the popular NBC sitcom Seinfeld. Their first appearance was on November 2, 1995. Bob is played by actor Yul Vazquez and Cedric is played by John Paragon.
Appearances
The two appeared in a total of three episodes together. While it is never explicitly said, they are portrayed as an inter-ethnic gay couple, one of whom is Latino and the other Caucasian. Seinfeld broke convention in the portrayal of gay men by making Bob and Cedric antagonistic, threatening, violent and (at times) downright criminal. They frequently intimidate Kramer and the other members of the Seinfeld foursome into doing what they want. This portrayal differed from the prevalent stereotype of gay men as being effeminate, weak and timid.
In a twist, they are not bullied or looked down upon for their homosexual relationship but rather seem to be popular and well-respected by heterosexuals in their community. In the episode "The Soup Nazi" Bob and Cedric are described as two "street toughs" and end up stealing Elaine's armoire, which Kramer was watching on the curb. Bob and Cedric harass and eventually lead a mob of people that chase down and beat up Kramer in "The Sponge" because he won't wear an AIDS ribbon. Finally, in "The Puerto Rican Day" Kramer is assaulted by a mob of people led by Bob and Cedric for accidentally setting a Puerto Rican flag on fire.
