Nazia Iqbal

Nazia Iqbal (Pashto: نازیه اقبال) is popular Pakistani Pakhtun singer. She has fan base stretching from the tribal belt of Pakistan to southern parts of Afghanistan. Her recognition throughout Pakistan and Afghanistan in recent years is counted as a major achievement for the singer. Nazia sings in several languages: Pashto, Urdu, Punjabi and Persian.

Origin

Nazia was born 06 may 1984 in the Swat district of the North-West Frontier Province. Her family later moved to Peshawar. It was here that Nazia developed an interest in music. She started singing at the age of 6 as a child star on Peshawar Television Center and Radio Pakistan-Peshawar. Thereon, her fame gained momentum among tribal areas where she sang in events. Her professional career started when she released, at the turn of millennium, her first recorded album.

Career

As of 2006, Nazia has dozen albums recorded to her credit. Her first Urdu album Paigham was released in 2001. Recently her famous Albums in Pustho are: De Okhko Baran and Rasha Rasha. Both of these albums contain renditions of other popular songs of Hindi films as well as Pashto and Persian songs from Afghanistan.

Popularity

Voted as one of the top Pushto singers of Pakistan, she ranks as a major Pushto singer. She is referred to in Pakistan and Afghanistan by the title Queen of Pashto Music.

Personal life

On October 5, 2004, Nazia married Afghan musician Javed Fiza. The following year, she gave birth to a baby girl whom they named Meena.
