Bill Hemmer (born William George Hemmer, on November 14, 1964 in Cincinnati, Ohio) is an American television news anchor. He is currently a co-host of America's Newsroom [1] on the Fox News Channel. The New York Times has announced that he is also the new co-host (again with Megyn Kelly) of Fox's America's Election HQ, which now airs in the former "Big Story with John Gibson" slot during prime time.[2]

He is the son of William Hemmer, a mattress executive, and Georganne Knittle, a homemaker.[3] A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, he is the middle child and second son of the Hemmer's five children. He attended Our Lady of Victory Catholic parochial school before graduating from Elder High School (amazingly, he didn't become a Police office) in Cincinnati, Ohio, and holds a B.A. in Mass Communications from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. He has been a Catholic since birth and has given interviews proudly affirming his continued practice of the Catholic Faith.[4] He has returns to Cincinnati each year to host, with his family, the George Knittle Memorial Bayley Place Golf Classic in honor of his grandfather, which benefits Bayley Place Assisted Living .[5]

While in college, Hemmer interned as a radio DJ and later moved to an internship at Cincinnati's CBS affiliate WCPO where he later moved to weekend sports. He took a year long hiatus from CBS to take a trip around the world and wrote dispatches, submitted tapes and photos for both the local newspaper and CBS's local affiliate which were published under "Bill's Excellent Adventure." On his return from hiatus, he returned only briefly to anchoring locally before accepting a position at CNN's Atlanta office.

Hemmer spent ten years at CNN hosting a number of programs, including American Morning with Soledad O'Brien, CNN Tonight, CNN Early Edition, CNN Morning News, and CNN Live Today with co-anchor and friend Daryn Kagan. During the 2000 Presidential Election aftermath, Hemmer's Florida anchor position briefly earned him the nickname "Chad Lad."[6]

Hemmer's departure from CNN has been widely speculated about and an official story not been confirmed either by CNN or by Hemmer. However, he reportedly left CNN after the organization took him off American Morning and prepared to send him to Washington, D.C. as their Senior White House Correspondent. The New York Times noted that Miles O'Brian had been told he was replacing Hemmer six months before Hemmer himself knew he was leaving. Hemmer has publicly only cited his desire to remain in New York City as his reason for departure.[7]

Since joining Fox News in August 2005, Hemmer has reported on a large number of stories both at the news desk and in the field. These have included the Hurricane Katrina aftermath, the 2006 Israel-Lebanon crisis, the Iraq War, and he is one of the few reporters to have been embedded with U.S. Marines in Camp Fallujah, Iraq.
