Marco Barbaro

Marco Barbaro (15111570) was of the Venetian noble Barbaro family. He was a humanist, author and genealogist. His Genealogie Patrizie, that outlined the geneaology of the various noble families of the Republic of Venice, is his most famous. Examples of his work is preserved within the Biblioteca Marciana. Barbaro family for Marco Barbaro (c. 1121), admiral and creator of the Venetian Barbaro family coat of arms. Regarded as the "father" of the House of Barbaro, he was honored in the painting Marco Barbaro Victorious in the Waters of Jaffa, designated to hang in the Doge's palace.
