Chhindwara (also spelt Chindawara or Chindwara) is a city and a municipality in Chhindwara district in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. It is the administrative headquarters of Chhindwara District. It is reachable by rail or road from adjacent cities Nagpur and Jabalpur. The nearest airport is in Nagpur (125 km).

Geography

Chhindwara is located at 22°04′N 78°56′E / 22.07°N 78.93°E / 22.07; 78.93[1]. It has an average elevation of 675 metres (2214 feet).

It has two lakes located in the middle of the town. Chhindwara is known for its richness in flora and fauna. Hundreds of important medicinal plants are grown naturally in the forest of this district. Tamia hills and Patalkot- The Hidden World is known as treasure of medicinal plants in Satpura plateau.

Tourist attractions

  • Golganj, Gandhiganj, Chotta Bazar, Shanichra Bazar and Mansarovar Complex are the main commercial centers of the city.
  • Hanuman temple at Nagpur road, Ram mandir at Chhota Bazar, Jain Kanch Mandir at Golganj, Shiv Mandir at Pataleshwar, Old Jama Masjid at Main Road,famous Dargaah at Satkaar chauraha, Catholic Church at Khajri Road, Sai mandir at vivekanand colony,old Gurudwara at Station Road and Nirmala Devi's birthplace at Nagpur road are worthseeing religious places of the city.
  • There are some big playgrounds and stadiums in the city with sports training facilities like Police Ground, Shukla Ground, Pola Ground and Main Stadium. A old and famous Gymnasium (Sarvottam Health Club)is also there for fitness freaks.
  • Statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Fawwara Chawk, Shivaji Maharaj at ELC, Indira Gandhi at indira Chawk, Pratul Chand Dwivedi at Old Power House and BheemRao Ambedkar at Satkaar Chauraha gives an identity to these places.
  • Very old library of Hindi Pracharni Samiti (on Vidhya-Niketan School premises) which has collection of thousands of old-new books, latest magazines and Hindi-English newspapers.
  • Four Good cinema Halls, BSNL office, New Bus Stand and Mansarovar Conmplex are other good places to see.




Education

District Learning Center: Chhindwara is a small district of MP but there are opportunities available for students in this town. TNI (The NIIT Institute of Information Technology), a non-profit, has set up the first-of-its kind District Learning Center (DLC) in Chhindwara, Madhya Pradesh to harness talent and skilled manpower for global readiness. It was inaugurated by Mr. Kamalnath, Commerce & Industry Minister of the Government of India on 13th August, 2007. NIIT's chairman, Rajendra Singh Pawar, and top managers from IT companies like IBM, Infosys, TCS and Wipro were also present.

It currently has a strength of 200+ and many courses are available for students who are graduates or in the final year of their graduate program. The center has been designed to create an ambience of an urban training facility and uses state-of-the-art technology-fully networked classrooms, machine rooms, labs, library, high-bandwidth internet, amongst other learning resources. One can opt for any of the following after meeting the qualifying criterion:

Certificate in Basic Infomation Technology (CBIT) Certificate in Programing Infrastructure Management (CPIM) Certificate in J2EE or .Net.

It is situated on the Seoni Road and is about a km. from the railway station. DLC is a reflection of unique public-private-partnership. The project has witnessed a strong industry support by way of corporate sponsored training to identified candidates from this region. The unique initiative has already garnered support from leading global organisations such as IBM, Wipro Technologies, Tata Consultancy Services and NIIT Technologies to utilize the talent pool created by this District Learning Centre.The model is being tested and NIIT plans to roll out similar initiatives in other districts of the country. These graduates will be equipped with various skills, such as IT, communication (verbal and written), and business etiquette that will enable them to acquire gainful employment.

  • Danielson Degree College which is situated at Nagpur road is the oldest educational Institute of whole chhindwara region and a Hot-Spot for students of chhindwara and nearby places. Danielson College is offering latest professional courses like BBA, BCA, MCM and B.Sc. with Microbiology etc. It is also providing placement facilities to its students.
  • PG College is situated at Dharam Tekri near khajri.
  • Govt. Girls College is situated at the heart of the town.
  • Satpuda Law College is offering some professional courses like MBA (aff. with Panjab Technical University) and LLB.

Coal mines

Parasia is situated about 30 km from Chhindwara. This Block is very famous for "coal Mines". It is colled "Coal Mines Belt". There were 24 Mines in this area among them 20 Mines are still working. The Pricipal Coal Mines Name:-

It is a multinational company, this company is originally from England. Earlier this company's name was Hindustan Lever Limited. Now its name has been changed. Now a days company name is HINDUSTAN UNILEVER LIMITED. Chhindwara Hindustan Unilever Limited is situated at village Lahgadua which 5 km from Chhindwara. There are 210 workers in Hindustan Unilever, they work in 3 shifts. This company has completed 75 years in 2008. The factory unit of Chhindwara produces 3 main products- Rin washing soap, Wheel washing powder and Surf Excel washing powder. It is only 1 factory unit of Hindustan Unilever in Madhya Pradesh. In the year 2007 the production was 70,000 units
