Noel Thompson

Noel Thompson is a news journalist with BBC Northern Ireland. He was born in Belfast and educated first at Campbell College in Belfast and then at St Catharine's College, Cambridge where he studied MML (French and German) and then Social and Political Sciences.

Career at the BBC

Thompson anchors BBC Northern Ireland television's innovative political series, Hearts and Minds, and the daily news programme BBC Newsline. He joined the BBC in 1979 as a researcher. Since then he has worked in London, Bristol and Manchester on radio and television programmes ranging from Newsround to the World Service. He has presented Newsnight and BBC Breakfast News and occasionally guests on BBC News 24 and BBC News's politics and culture programme HARDtalk.

Awards

  • Winner of the Royal Television Society's Regional TV Presenter of the Year award two years in a row - the first time that the award has been won by the same presenter in successive years.
