Mike Kernell (born December 20, 1951 in Memphis, Tennessee) is a member of the Tennessee House of Representatives. Kernell, a Democrat, was first elected to the 89th Tennessee General Assembly in 1976.[1] He chairs the Government Operations Committee.[2]

Kernell has opposed recent cutbacks to Tenncare.[3][4]

In the November 4 2008 elections, Kernell will face Republican candidate and former Homeland Security agent Tim Cook.[5][6][7]

In September 2008, anonymous sources reported that the FBI had searched the house of Kernell's son David in connection with the hacking of Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin's Yahoo! Mail account. The FBI and Secret Service are now investigating.[8]
