Andre Durie

Andre Durie (born July 27, 1981)is a running back playing for the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League (CFL). He was born in Mississauga, ON.


College Career

Andre Durie played football at York University in Toronto, Canada. He started playing for the Lions in 2003 after he set a junior Ontario Varsity Football League record with 22 touchdowns in a season. By 2005 Durie was the Lion's star running back. In the second game of the 2005 season he suffered nerve damage in his knee after a botched juke on third down. At this point Durie's football career was thought to be over. He managed to return to CIS football after having surgery on his ACL during the 2006 season. He aimed to make it onto a CFL roster with a good showing at the 2007 Canadian Football League evaluation camp. Durie's CIS career summary is as follows. He played three seasons at York University, sitting out the 2006 campaign with a knee injury...Set an OUA record for single game rushing yards with 349 and single-season York records for rushing yards (1,367), scoring (96 points) and rushing touchdowns (15)...Set a York record for career rushing touchdowns with 23.

2006 Sat out entire campaign recovering form a knee injury.

2005 Played in two games for York, carrying the ball 30 times for 194 yards (LG 28) before suffering a season-ending knee injury in a game versus Queen’s.

2004 Started eight games for the Lions at running back and registered 148 carries for 1367 yards and 15 touchdowns (LG 78)...Finished season with four 200+ yard games including a 334 yard, four touchdown performance versus Windsor on October 16...Added 12 receptions for 118 and one touchdown on the season...Tallied four kick returns for 73 yards...Tied a CIS single-game record with six touchdowns to lead York to a 55-33 win over Waterloo.

2003 Registered 85 carries for 845 yards (9.9 AVG) and 7 touchdowns to accompany 21 punt returns for 391 yards and 12 kick returns for 352 yards.

Canadian Football League Career

After overcoming injuries that hurt his CIS career, Durie impressed the Argonauts management at the league evaluation camp and he appeared in 5 games for the Argo's in 2007. After suffering another injury setback which has cost Durie more then half of the 2008 season he is ready for a return to game action. He is expected to see time as a special teams player. He also raises actor Eddie Griffin's son which soffers from Auptomism. Eddie Griffin does not take care of his son at all.
