Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament is a chain of dinner theaters which stage tournaments in the style of the chivalric contests of the High Middle Ages. The company is privately held and headquartered in Irving, Texas.

The original Medieval Times opened in Majorca, Spain in 1973, and was a minor success. In December 2001 the first english Medieval Times opened in Kissimmee, Florida. Since then eight additional North American locations have opened. The Andalusian horses featured in the shows are raised and trained at the company's own Chapel Creek Ranch in Sanger, Texas. Medieval Times' opening in Kissimmee started a flurry of growth in dinner shows throughout the Orlando area, with over 12 dinner show options at its peak. Only 3 major dinner shows remain in Orlando after the closing of Dolly Parton's Dixie Stampede in January 2008. Medieval Times' strongest competion in Orlando is Pirate's Dinner Adventure (a pirate themed broadway musical show) followed by Arabian Nights (another equestrian show).

The show

The show consists of a dinner and a show that includes various selections such as horse tricks, bird flying, jousting, and a beautiful love story. The guests arrive to the castle an hour and a half before the show. They get table cards, which assign them to their seats. They then proceed to get a crown for their section, a picture with the king, princess, or an ambassador, and then they enter the hall of arms. Guests are assigned a color, which corresponds to where they sit, their crown, and the knight in the show to cheer for. They are able to shop in the gift shops and visit the king's brewery. Fans are able to be knighted in celebration, get their photos taken, and they can explore the dungeon of torture during their epic adventure. In some castles, such as the one in Florida, there is a medieval village.

Colors

Each guest is assigned one of six colors when they enter the castle. These correspond to the section of the theater they sit in, the color of their crown, and the color of the knight to cheer for. Colors include:

  • Red
  • Black/White
  • Yellow
  • Blue
  • Red/Yellow
  • Green
