Shane's Rib Shack, a fast casual BBQ franchise, is known for its slow-cooked baby back ribs, hand-chopped chicken and pork, and southern sides according to its website. [2]
History
The original shack was founded in 2002, in rural McDonough, Ga. by Shane and Stacey Thompson. It was acquired by Atlanta-based Raving Brands, a multi-concept franchisor which franchises other chains including Planet Smoothie, Doc Greens, The Flying Biscuit, Boneheads and Monkey Joe’s, its only non-foodservice operation, in 2004. [3]
The Founder
In 2001, Shane Thompson and his wife Stacey bought an old, beat-up roadside shack that was for sale to open a family restaurant. Shane left a career as a medical device salesman, and armed with a pipedream and his granddad’s BBQ sauce recipe, Shane opened Shane’s Rib Shack in 2002, on Highway 155 in McDonough, Ga. [4]
Shacks
The original shack was a tin roof building complete with an outhouse. The locations have come a long way since then to become what Shane's Rib Shack calls "Shabby Chic." The locations are made to resemble a shack, in an upscale way. [5]

Food
Shane’s is famous for its sauce[13] and everything it touches – baby back ribs, its trademark heaping pork sandwich,[14] chopped barbecue chicken platters and made from scratch sides. Shane’s smokes the meat overnight, hand chops it in the morning and serves it daily.[15]
