Hradesin is an organization currently engaged in the production of multi-media installations that encompass music, film and photography. Hradesin is primarily the work of one individual, namely the bassist and composer Robert White, aka Pinky.

The name Hradesin originates from a small town in the Czech Republic which is known as a shortwave numbers station broadcast site. For example: “Hradesin, 12km East/South East from Prague a mystery centre from which originate countings (50,51,52,…59) on 1122khz.” See also WWDXDE.

History

Formed in 2000 by band member Pinky White, Hradesin originally had four members that included Duddley Middleton, Adie Collop and Chris Mizsak. First radio play was on BBC Radio 3’s Late Junction hosted by Fiona Talkington during late summer 2000.

Methods

Hradesin employ many compositional techniques: chance operations, indeterminancy, free improvisation and at times serialism or more conventional structure. Many of the pieces are as a result, minimalist in nature. Psychoacoustics are often used as are digitally-recorded found sounds, field recordings and other recordings made using contact microphones. These recordings are generally binaural. Analogue tape has also been used to record acoustic instruments when a warmer less harsh sound was needed.

Music

The music genres might be listed here...

Film

Films embody representations of the fenland landscape that have surrounded Hradesin for millenia. They demonstrate a vast love of the landscape. I wonder if this sort of 'opinion' (as opposed to facts) is OK?

You'll find the films here, on the YouTube page of course. Has been a major contributor to the 2008 Frieze Film project.

Photography

All this stuff is on Hradesin's flickr page etc. Blah blah...
