He is the father of the famous tamil actor Joseph Vijay. He is married to Shoba Chandrasekhar who is a singer. His daughter, Vidhya died at the age of two.

S.A.Chandrasekhar has directed over 60 movies in Tamil besides producing 27 movies so far with his wife Shoba. Some of his hits include Vetri, Sattam Oru Iruttarai, Naan Sigappu Manidhan, Mutham.
