The Nation Blue

History

The band formed in Hobart in 1998, named after "...a record called Wodka Party by Will Glah, famous for it's "Beer Barrel Polka"[1]. The Vodka Party was highly politically motivated[2] and live performances would often include spoken-word political monologues from D Freedman. The band was likened to a "drunken pirate escapade"[3] and "Rain Dogs era Tom Waits"[4]. The band played at various venues such as The Dog House/Goulburn Arms Hotel, The Bavarian Tavern, The Whirling Rainbow and other independent music venues around Hobart. The Vodka Party toured Melbourne, receiving great acclaim[5], but the band folded after returning from the 2003 tour for reasons unknown. [6]

Current

  • Andrew Tanner currently plays with Zulya and the Children of the Underground
  • Keith Mason currently plays as a solo artist under the name of K Mason
  • It is unknown as to whether Dave Freedman, Jen Freedman or Pete Middleton continue to make music
