Spennells
Spennells is an area of Kidderminster which could also be classed as being near Stone, Offmore, Comberton Aggborough and Hoobrook. Spennells has a park with some woodland/nature reserve area around it. The Spennells area includes some shops which are; Tesco Express, Doris's Pharmacy, Crazy Daisy's Flower Shop, Hairdresser's, Kemp Hospice Shop and two takeaway restaurants. Spennells has a pond on the outskirts of the estate, this is known as Captain's Pool and features animals such as Ducks, Swans and has plenty of fish in the water. The names of the streets are named after birds, for example Pheasant Close and Pochard Close etc. Spennells also has a local first school which is called Heronswood Primary but before the development of the change of schooling system it was otherwise known as Spennells First School. Spennells is next to Hoobrook and many streets come off the main road Spennells Valley Road (B road).
As of July 2007 Spennells First school has closed. It will be re-opened as Heronswood Primary school in September 2007. There is also a local park that was recently refurbished, and is popular with the locals. There is also a nursing home near to the park. There is also a multi sport hardcourt area attached to the park since April 2008.This area includes a seven-a-side football pitch, a basketball court and two cricket stumps with bowling lines. This area is locally known as "the cage", and is regularly inhabited by local children. The children who exceed the age of 11 years old and are in year seven until year 11 or 13(optional)of the Spennells area go to the King Charles Secondary school which all children seem to be proud of. There has been a recent vandalism attack on Heronswood Primary School by the local "gang" the Spennells crew, made up of local youths from the estate, and are a main source of problems which arise within the area, they were once a group of adults but as time has passed the younger generation has took over the role, leaving the "spennells crew" less feared and dangerous. Many music artists have also arisen through the spennells crew such as "globoi aka Joe Malek", and "Wez aka wesley chater" both of which produce music of the rap and hip hop genre.
Spennells is a desirable place to live, with many peaceful streets and cul de sacs in the area. If however, you are looking for a good party to go to, odds are you will not find it in spennells, as spennells is a quiet and rather dull place. Spennells is mainly surrounded by countryside and there are farms in abundance. The "Jumps" are located at the back of spennells, these are a set of dirt jumps designed for skilled bikers to attempt the occasional outrageous jump. These however are on private property of a local farmer and if he catches you, he will give your backside a roasting.
As with many places, Spennells is home to some rough characters, for legal reasons were shall not name, but they know who they are. Spennells park is the home of Forest Rovers Football Club, unfortunately they are a very pitiful team, with no real hope of winning anything. The manager/linesman/chairman/secretary of Forest Rovers doesn't expect players to pay for goalposts, corner flags, footballs or cones so if you are interested in joining then get down the park on a sunday morning very soon.
Famous people to live/have lived in spennells Mark Savage (Ex Manager of a leading soccer team, Kidderminster Athletic back in the glory days), James Smith (Former Comberton pupil, big on illegal DVD sales), Martin Walters (Infamous bad boy, aggressive character who recently smashed up a neighbours car), Mr Rawle (Teacher at Comberton Middle School, Maths and IT) and the most famous person has to be Les Ferdinand (the football player who has played for Tottenham Hotspurs). Les actually wanted to play for Forest Rovers just to get playing football once again, but they asked him to pay for the goalposts, corner flags, footballs and cones so Les thought this was unfair and left Spennells for good.
A very strange person who has a nervous twitch in his eyebrows lives at Jay Park Crescent. He is a seventeen year old lad whose hair colour is Multi Coloured and likes hitting the floor if chip shops aren't open. If you approach him and he gets angry he may throw his wallet at you and moan and groan to threaten to you off as a warning.
Many people have left their legacys on Spennells, none more so than Manchester United fan and Former St Johns Tiger B under 12's Manager Paul Seldon. Paul is a man for all seasons, adores his Football, whether it's the pro game or just simple sunday league. He has watched the glory years come and go as his youth team have grown from nervy young boy, go full grown men, much of this is down to his man management skills. He has also been mistaken for ex Manchester United player, Fabien Barthez. Paul is in the carpet trade, and his embarked on dangerous missions for his beloved MDC. He was the mastermind behind the 'great 06 carpet scam in Chile' and the 'fitted carpet con of san francisco in the late 80's'. He is a man of mystery, where pauls tactical expertise or nose for a scam will be found next, who knows?
Another great from the footballing world to have been brought up in the Spennells suburbs, is that of up and coming goalkeeper for Worcester City Phillip Parker. Phillip has had a mixed bag when it comes to life, getting into Worcester from St Johns Tigers was a definate high, not being able to spell his own name correctly was most certainly a definate low. He is rather erratic when it comes to goalkeeping, running out nd missing the ball is a top quality of is, but what he lacks in co-ordination, he certainly makes up for in punting. "He can punt for England this kid" a worldwide known quote from leading sports analyst/pundit Mark lawrenson. Big things lie ahead for Phil. He's not had it all his own way though, once having an Aston Villa shirt with his name Tipexed on the back. Lets hope Phil can coninue the growth he has shown to get this far and become a world beater, and no I dont mean grown of his chin!
One of Spennell's most infamous residents is Fabio Rodriguez, who more commonly goes by his alias 'Simon Clarke'. Rodriguez is most often described as an 'odd fellow, who likes to wander the area around the tandoori in his dressing gown at 2am'. Rodriguez should not be approached unless you are heavily armed and are in a group of at least 9 people. Do not accept any sweeties he offers you, otherwise like the farmer of the jumps, he will give your backside a roasting. Rodriguez has many well known associates in a chain of crime and corruption, offences range from drug traficing, harassment, illegal loan sharking, debt collecting, acts of terrorirsm and most frequently he has become a suspect in a local knife crime where a local 45 year old man was brutally assulted. Several confessions have come of this crime including that from a young 8 year old boy named keiron "rudebwoii" Bell who admited to violently headbutting the man in his place of work, macdonalds in kidderminsters town centre.
