I'm looking for evidence about 1) whether or not Oscar actually has been seen outside of his trash can on any episode, and 2) why anyone would say Oscar is particularly smart. Comments? -Ryguasu

Don't forget that Oscar represents the _homeless_ in NYC. (Of course he's a grouch! You'd be grouchy too...) -zuzu

Can we vote on 2)? I vote he is not smart, as he lives in a garbage can. That must be smelly. 65.80.103.232 17:13, 15 Dec 2003 (UTC)

Well, it only looks like a garbage can. It is actually an entry into hammerspace. How else would he keep a pet elephant in there! --Knife Knut 01:35, 21 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, and I don't even think he has legs, so I doubt anyone has seen him outside the garbage can. 65.80.103.232 17:14, 15 Dec 2003 (UTC)

I thought I saw him in a car once Terrible Tim 16:01, 19 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Um, the image for this article doesn't exist....I'm removing the image link until someone can point me to a working copy. Flockmeal 04:41, Feb 18, 2004 (UTC)

Um, have you read the top of Wikipedia:Village pump? --mav
Aha, thanks, I had not. All is clear now. --Flockmeal 20:41, Feb 18, 2004 (UTC)

there was 1 in the 70s where Big Bird was in there and he comes out to talk to some of the adults and Oscar yell out. hey! what are all these yellow feathers doing in my swimming pool? don't rememebr what it was about.

"The hack was so popular that some parents lost the entire contents of their hard disks to preschoolers wanting to see more of Oscar. (Late Nights with MacHack, p. 27)"

All I can say is "Ooph!" --Ihope127 20:32, 12 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
It's quite funny (it certainly made me laugh), but it sounds urband legend-ish. Is there any possible way to even remotely confirm this? It's just not encyclopedic as is, which stinks because it's such a neat thing to have in the article. -- DocSigma 14:56, 16 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

"Oscar the Grouch" has been a proverbial term for somebody who acquires many hand-me-downs from people who are getting rid of them." Is it really? Can anyone back this up?

I'm surprised that the grouchkateers were not mentioned...is there a reason for that

Rumpel is not Oscar

Hi, I didn't edit wikipedia in some time, so I probably got the style a bit wrong. The reference given for the identity of the german Rumpel with Oscar didn't work any more and the german wikipedia page gives an account of both Rumpel and Oscar, which is correct, since just renaming oscar to rumpel would have raised objections from the older german viewers, who remembered Oscar from their own childhood. Rumpel is way more friendly and mild-mannered than Oscar. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.237.148.73 (talk) 22:06, 14 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Cookie-intro.png

Image:Cookie-intro.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Criticism on Oscar

Why is it that a criticism section hasn't been created?Angie Y. (talk) 18:12, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I agree...This character is meant to glorify homelessness and unemployment. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Seattlehawk94 (talkcontribs) 08:07, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No wonder

No wonder why this article needs cleanup. Because he lives in a trashcan. {Tim C} 21:44, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
