Mosman, or the Municipality of Mosman, is a suburb on the lower North Shore of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. It is located 8 km from the Sydney central business district and is surrounded on three sides by water. It was founded in the 1830s as a whaling station by Archibald Mosman and is now a leafy and prosperous suburb. Its wealth, modernity yet realitively old money and its conservative values make Mosman much like Orange County in California and some foreign visitors have made this comparison by referring to Mosman as the "MC" (Mosman County). Mosman contains Taronga Zoo and a number of harbour beaches, including Balmoral Beach.
