Requested move

I agree with the requested move. I created Howdy (disambiguation) because I was annoyed with the redirect. --Gray Porpoise 10:43, 21 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion

The word "howdy" stands for "how do ye", with the Texan accent being a derivative of Old English, who unsuccessfully settled the area in the 1500's. This is recognized by linguists at the University of Calgary, with an entry ("howdy") noting this at dictionary.com .

The above information in the discussion is inaccurate. Old English was only spoken through the 12th Century, first of all. And Dictionary.com says nothing of this sort. For what it's worth, I used to greet customers with 'howdy' at a store in the midwest, and elderly customers would routinely respond as though I had said 'how are you?'145.18.18.33 (talk) 11:14, 14 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

An Informal Greeting

That is correct. Being from Tennessee I can attest that "Howdy!" is completely interchangeable with "Hello!" and is not indicative of asking how one is doing. The proper reply is the same or another form of hello. Traumatic (talk) 19:48, 1 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
