Stock information

Before re-adding the stock information, please see WP:NOTDIRECTORY and WP:INDISCRIMINATE. The stock information is likely to be outdated within hours, considering the nature of the stock market. If you re-add it, I will bring this to the attention of Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents for further input. Before doing so, though, I am willing to discuss this further on your talk page. Gary King (talk) 16:11, 19 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Gary,
I will definitely add the stock holding info to Warren Buffett /Berkshire Hathaway pages because this is what readers want to see and why they come to these pages. You are making the whole page non-readable and much less useful. The old page is much better and your way of dictating is not right. People come to these pages because Warren Buffett is a legendary stock picker. If you remove the stock part, you basically cut Buffett's head off.
The stock holding info I put on is from the latest Berkshire 13F filing with SEC. It's not stock quote or anything changing fast. It's what Berkshire tells world what they bought/held/sold in last quarter.
Always keep in mind Warren Buffett is about investment, i.e., stocks, without that, the page is dead, or your page is dead. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Iifacts (talkcontribs)
We are writing an encyclopedia, not copying and pasting information from other sources onto here. If you really want to, you can add an external link to the stock information from the Berkshire Hathaway article. Gary King (talk) 02:21, 20 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Your editing lowered the overall quality of this page significantly. Please reverse all your editing back to the good old page, especially the time line. The time line and stock holdings are the best part of this page and you removed all of them. That's very sad. If you don't know/care much about investment/stocks, please leave this page alone. Thanks! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Iifacts (talkcontribs) 02:31, 20 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Please respond on your own talk page and not mine, so that we can keep this discussion together if others wish to weigh in on it. In response to your latest message, I do care about investment/stocks, and especially the state of Warren Buffett and Berkshire Hathaway. Please take a look at other articles about economists, such as Harold Innis, which is one of several prime examples for what Buffett's article should aspire to. As for the timeline that was previously in the article, it was essentially prose line, which is discouraged. Gary King (talk) 02:35, 20 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) While it is definitely true that Warren Buffet is a "legendary" investor (my personal beliefs notwithstanding), adding a list of stocks owned would be bordering on trivia and would be adding undue weight to the article. Also, consider that keeping the info up-to-date and verifiable would be very time-consuming. Dabomb87 (talk) 02:36, 20 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
To Dabomb87: it seems that you are in charge here...the stock info is up-to-date and verifiable (SEC.gov), I will maintain that. Removing stock holding info from Warren Buffett's page is doing a disservice to the readers.
To Iifacts: I would prefer that you reply here to keep the thread together; also, please sign your posts with four tildes as it makes conversations easier to follow. I am not "in charge"—no one is, as Wikipedia articles are not owned. I am simply an interested third party. Dabomb87 (talk) 02:50, 20 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I don't really believe that a list of stocks held is encyclopedic. However, don't listen to me only. Bring the issue up on the article's talk page and discuss the issue with other users (more than just me and Gary). Thank you. Dabomb87 (talk) 02:53, 20 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Your recent edits

Hi there. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. If you can't type the tilde character, you should click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Warren Buffett. Note that the three-revert rule prohibits making more than three reversions on a single page within a 24 hour period. Additionally, users who perform a large number of reversions in content disputes may be blocked for edit warring, even if they do not technically violate the three-revert rule. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing. Please do not repeatedly revert edits, but use the talk page to work towards wording and content that gains a consensus among editors. If necessary, pursue dispute resolution. Dabomb87 (talk) 03:11, 20 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for reminding...I hate dictator in the real world, and don't like a person who thinks he knows everything and his stuff is always the best. 03:16, 20 February 2009 (UTC)

I understand that you disagree with Gary, but mischaracterizing him as a "dictator" and an elitist is simply not true and could be misconstrued as a bad faith comment. Please try to reach a consensus; Gary is a very experienced editor, he knows what he is doing. Thanks for your understanding. Dabomb87 (talk) 03:42, 20 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
So you know Gary, right? I also know what I am doing. He cut off too many other people's hard work because of his so called experienceIifacts (talk) 03:52, 20 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
