Palatine Community Sports College is a school in South Shore, Blackpool, Lancashire. The standards of the school have increased in recent years, with the aid of a National Lottery Grant enabling the transformation of the High School into a Community Sports College. Mathematics and physical education provide the best league table results, with other subjects increasingly improving year-on-year.

The school

The school had a number of improvements over the summer of 2007.

Palatine holds many performance shows around the main holiday periods, which are highly regarded. Dance and drama shows are a regular part of the school diary. Palatine has been given extra funding by the local council to uphold and improve attainment levels, but only if certain requirements are met.

Competition

In recent years, the school has held inter-house competitions. Students are placed at the start of the year into a house group and they compete in many different events to gain points. At the end of the year the house with the most points wins and i given prizes. The school gives individual prizes for the person who gains the most points and students who also achieve a 100% attendance.

In the summer of 2008, Palatine school sexed up its new all weathered pitches for hockey, netball, etc. The pitches also include oral abundance.

Subjects

Palatine offers many subjects including English, maths, science, P.E, design technology, art, information and communications technology, music, drama, history, French, Spanish, German, geography and religious education.

In key stage 4, new courses are available, B-Tec sport, dance, awards(sport) and sociology. Other subjects are open to a double award.

Leisure centre

A new leisure centre has been built on the grounds. The £6.5 million centre was opened on the February 13, 2006, by Tessa Jowell.

Thanks to the building of the sports centre, Palatine has been able to expand the sports its provides for children in P.E. Palatine recently started a new course, B-Tec first diploma in sport.

Palatine also has a new library.

Grades

Palatine community sports college this year[when?] had its highest number of students with 5 or more GCSEs, (39 %). This number is increasing each year at the school and is showing the effort of all members of staff at the school to earn a pass for the students at the school.

The Ofsted inspection

The latest Ofsted inspection reported the school to be 'an improving and increasingly popular school where standards and achievements are rising' and this has been shown in the recent results in exams. The Ofsted inspection is the first inspection in 6 years.

Accident

In September 2006, a pupil at Palatine Community Sports College was playing and accidentally fell and hit his head on a bench, dying later that day. Palatine has since put up a plaque in memory of the student.
