ExpressionEngine is a content management system designed by EllisLab. It is available in a free "Core Version", and in both "Personal" and "Commercial" versions after paying a one-time fee. The current version is 1.6.7. Version 2.0 was announced for release in "the summer of 2008", however this was put back to an unspecified date later in the year,[1] and has yet to ship as of January 26, 2009. EllisLab has stated the new version of ExpressionEngine will be built on the CodeIgniter framework.[2]

ExpressionEngine is intended to be simpler to use than other content management systems; for instance, it requires no knowledge of PHP, and has extensive online documentation.
