Infobox cricketer...

Hi, my watchlist tells me you were trying to fix a spacing error with the infobox. Have you an example of it happening? If it is what I think it is, and it is justifying the text wrapping onto two lines, I tend to force a line break before the first team/country which seems to work. If it is anything else, we'll see how we can fix it.

Nothing major, I just noticed on Luke Wright's Last ODI section the ":" after the date and the "v" were together whereas on the ODI debut there was a space between them, checking some other cricketers and the same thing affected all of their Last ODI sections. I attempted to add a space in the right place but it seemed to make no difference. --Jpeeling (talk) 11:08, 7 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Think I've done it - it was probably where you put it before, but I find it takes a while to get past the cache on my machine - maybe that was the case for you. Have a look at some further players and it should be fixed. Incidentally, I've scrapped the colons anyway as they take up a character space and don't really add anything.—MDCollins 00:32, 9 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yep looks fine now, thanks for your help. --Jpeeling (talk) 17:14, 9 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again, thanks for the email - that's fine with me; I expect a bot could do it, (even Sambot on a run through - but that won't standardise the rest). While we're doing it, could I request that we keep Test and ODI singular (rather than [[Test cricket|Tests]]/ODIs, which just look wrong to me, what do you think? To my mind, I think of it as 'Test statistics' and we don't have FCs or LAs etc do we. This may be a case of correcting it manually on sight, and seeing if others can do the same.—MDCollins 00:42, 11 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

According to AWB there's 60 odd articles that have IT20 so I may do it myself. I was slightly worried that changing them would cause the infobox to 'mess-up' (very technical term) but I see from my edit to Jonathan Trott that the section would just disappear. On the other point I agree that Test should be used, I know I've used Tests a couple of times but that's when I've been lazy and have copied from an existing infobox, it's not a conscious choice. --Jpeeling (talk) 15:57, 11 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ranji Trophy

I have not made any changes to the Ranji trophy article. Please check.122.167.235.199 (talk) 17:02, 16 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

RE: Boycott

I did indeed notice, and I shall try to address your points when my schedule frees up somewhat. Many thanks :) SGGH speak! 23:07, 26 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Umpire info

Hi,

That's funny - I found the same problem with another umpire the night before last but made a hash of fixing it. I'll try again (so that if umplastyr (or whatever it is) is left blank it just displays the same year. I'll have a look now.—MDCollins 23:15, 3 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Just leave out the duplicate year.—MDCollins (talk) 23:43, 3 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks once again. --Jpeeling (talk) 10:35, 4 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Invincibles fixes

Feel free to step in at your leisure and you don't need to email me before doing anything. I need all the help I can get....per my post on WT:CRIC YellowMonkey (click here to vote for world cycling's #1 model!) 05:44, 4 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, Fingo can be a bit casual...I weeded out a few before... YellowMonkey (click here to vote for world cycling's #1 model!) 08:06, 5 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Female cricketers

Hi,

That's really strange cos it should work like you suggested (and didn't need the workaround) - saying that, for a box I entered (Laura Harper), I did exactly as yourself - it shouldn't be necessary if you look at the coding... —MDCollins (talk) 22:51, 22 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ron Hayward

The name seems to ring a bell with me. ISTR him as being a sponsor of the game - possibly women's cricket in particular - circa the 1970s. Or maybe he sponsored some of the rebel tours to South Africa? So he could be notable even though he doesn't have a CI or CA entry. JH (talk page) 10:50, 23 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I now realise that I was thinking of Jack Hayward, so Ron probably isn't notable. However I don't think that the absence of a CI or CA entry is always sufficient to prove non-notability, as some notable cricketer writers, administrators etc may not have an entry. MOS:FLAG

Hi. On your reversion of the use of the Indian flag in Tendulkar's infobox, you cited MOS:Flag. However it states that "The country name may be omitted if a flag appears with its country name earlier in a list or table. When a flag icon is needed more than once, the flag-and-name template, for example  Japan, or its shorter variant  JPN should be used first, but may be reduced to Japan in subsequent uses. However, some editors feel that some tables such as those containing sports statistics (example) are easier to read if  [[|]] is used throughout." MOS:Flag also states that for sportspeople "Flags should never indicate the player's nationality in a non-sporting sense; flags should only indicate the sportsperson's national squad/team or sporting nationality." As a result I'm not entirely clear as to why  India was replaced by India, considering that  India did represent Tendulkar's sporting nationality, and was not explicitly referring to his nationality in a non-sporting sense. --Elostirion (talk) 03:27, 1 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Firstly list and tables are different from infoboxes. The piece of MOS:FLAG that I was thinking of is: "The use of flag icons in the birth and death information in a biographical article's introduction and/or infobox is forbidden". There is also a fairly recent discussion about the use of flags in cricketers infoboxes. Finally I replaced {{IND}} with "India" as the usefulness of a link to India would be slim to none. --Jpeeling (talk) 10:41, 1 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much for your reply. For some reason I didn't notice that the text I cited referred specifically to lists and tables. --Elostirion (talk) 18:06, 1 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
