Hi there! To keep the flow of conversations, I like to keep threads on one page where possible. So, if you post a message here, I'll probably respond to it here. Conversely, if I post a message on your talk page, you can respond there if you wish; since I've edited your talk page I'll have it on my watchlist. Thanks!

Pete's thing

Hi Ron,

Regarding So-so Transpo. I can see that you're based in the UK. I'm based in Ottawa. That's what we call the bus service around here. Could you please return the comments to their original? Thanks! Pete. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.246.178.209 (talk) 22:16, 27 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If you wish to make derogatory statements like "It is known throughout the city as an efficient method of transportation, but with extremely poor customer service. There are frequent reports of drivers refusing to make eye contact and answering questions with exasperation or sarcasm. Subsequently the service has been dubbed So-So Transpo" then they must be supported by third party references - such as articles in your local newspapers. Making such statements could let Wikipedia open to legal action. Ronhjones (talk) 22:22, 27 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

ANTM cycle 12 bad revert

Be careful with your reverts. You accidently reverted a good edit to one that was vandalism, marking the good edit as vandalism. -Misty Willows (talk) 09:11, 20 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, but it did look like vandalism, as it was a deletion of a fairly large amount of neatly formatted table, with no edit explanation, and no discussion on the talk page as to why it should be deleted. Ronhjones (talk) 16:45, 20 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Fluorenylmethyloxycarbonyl chloride

Hope you don't mind a cheeky request... You quoted "J. Jones, Amino Acid and Peptide Synthesis, 2nd edn., Oxford University Press, 2002." in this page. Would you know if there is a synthesis of Fluorenylmethyloxycarbonyl chloride in that book? It would save me the time of having to get a loan out of the BL, and then probably only to find that it uses bought in FMOC-Cl! Ronhjones (talk) 23:07, 25 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, I don't mind the cheeky request at all. I had a look at the book (hardly a difficult manoeuvre as it is still next to my computer) and it doesn't go into the synthesis of Fmoc I'm afraid. I have a paper that might be of some use to you, I haven’t read it yet but I think i'ts the first mention of the Fmoc group in the literature. The reference is "L. A. Carpino and G. Y. Han, Journal of Organic Chemistry, 1972, 37, 3404-&." which can be found here if you have access to the Web of Science. If you can't find the paper or don't have access drop me another message and I'll take a look at it and see if they report the synthesis. I hope that was of some help to you! -Noosentaal·talk· 15:13, 26 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the info - I checked JOC (we have an ACS subscrition) it has the data to make the FMOC-Cl from the alcohol with (of course) phosgene! - may have to change that, not the easist of chemicals to get hold of nowdays. Ronhjones (talk) 17:32, 26 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Excellent, glad I could be of some help to you! Just out of curiosity, why are you trying to make it? Its a pretty standard protecting group, I wouldn't have thought it would be that expensive to buy in and would certainly be a lot easier! -Noosentaal·talk· 12:22, 27 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You didn't notice where I worked then on my user page... I work for Alfa Aesar (merge of Alfa, Aesar, Avocado, and Lancaster synthesis). Buy? From Aldrich - our main competitor? We try not to. Ronhjones (talk) 20:40, 27 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You're right, I didn't look at your user page, that makes a little more sense! Good luck making Fmoc! Let me know how you get on! If you find out anything interesting then don't forget to update the Fmoc page! -Noosentaal·talk· 12:36, 28 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Notes about Robot searches

Hello there Sorry about not leaving a note on the edit summary about removing some content. The robot searches for Canadian road articles, and a person must manually remove false positives. The robot works fairly well, however some articles do get added to the list which are not about Canadian roads, or are Canadian articles not about roads. I added a note to the talk page, if I miss another edit summary. Kind Regards SriMesh | talk 01:31, 2 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It is good to have such a robot looking for people deleting content willy nilly. I will try to remember to always fill in the edit field for especially removing content from Alex robot search article pages, as I am not creating yet another robotic search, so will be more careful. Sorry for the hassle.SriMesh | talk 20:33, 2 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Editing Pages

I edited Sheffield to add a section called twin towns, but then i realised it was already covered in the Governance section, so i removed that chunk and put in a new section. It got deleted, and it said it was deleted by you! Howcome? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.144.22.147 (talk) 21:29, 2 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The reasoning is covered in your talk page. Deleting a large chunk of data and not providing a reason why, will often cause a revert (it's a typical example of vandalization), if not by an editor, then by a background bot. Ronhjones (talk) 21:32, 2 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

ACS journals and IP edits

Your edits to several ACS journals were to the point, but the IP editor had been adding material direct from the ACS journal web page. Also the ref you corrected was just a repeat of the web site in the infobox so it should be removed. Please help me to keep an eye on these articles. There seems to be a mass attempt by ACS to edit articles on their journals, with two other editors with accounts who seem to have learn about copyright, but this IP editor has not. --Bduke (Discussion) 22:26, 6 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

OK, thanks for the heads up. I will make sure they stay in my watchlist.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 22:29, 6 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I am going to be off on wikibreak in just under two days. --Bduke (Discussion) 22:47, 6 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi

My edit to Benzodiazepine dependence was not vandalism. Injecting Benzodiazepines does not cause HIV, injecting with a needle infected with HIV can cause aids. I think it should be reworded. It seems that that information applies to all drugs, not just Benzodiazepines. What do you think? Mwalla (talk) 22:55, 6 March 2009 (UTC)mwalla[reply]
