Beaver Group is an organization whose focus is the delivery of digital signage and design solutions. Beaver Group is made up of two companies, Beaver Solutions and Beaver Design.[1]

Barry Thurston and Peter Critchley are the directors of Managed Information Technologies (which trades as Beaver Solutions). Barry and Peter partnered with Dave Suter of Beaver Design in 2001 joining the two companies together to form Beaver Group.[1]

Beaver Group serves clients locally and internationally, including the BBC, Ericsson[2], the UK Home Office, IKEA[3][4], P&O Cruises and Spectrum Interactive[5][6].

In October 2008, Beaver Solutions won the AV Award for 'Digital Signage Project of the Year' by the AV Interactive Magazine for their deployment of a complete digital signage solution for the Showcase Cinemas de Lux brand.[7]

History

Beaver Design started in 1978, when designers Alan Critchley and Dave Suter partnered together to start their own graphic design company. Alan previously worked as a freelance graphic designer for clients such as Nabisco (now Cereal Partners - Nestlé cereals) and Rank Xerox. Alan and Dave met in the late-seventies while both working on graphic design projects.[8]

When they formed Beaver Design, the first office was based above a small glassware shop in Knebworth, Hertfordshire. In the early-eighties Beaver Design moved offices to Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire and started hiring new people. Their client base increased with SmithKline & French (now part of GlaxoSmithKline) and Stafford Miller (makers of Sensodyne).

In 1991 Beaver Design relocated to Hertford, Hertfordshire, with new purpose built offices. Peter Critchley and Barry Thurston joined the Beaver Design partnership in 2001, bringing their own company - MIT, trading as Beaver Solutions - to form the Beaver Group. Beaver Solutions is a technology company which specialises in digital signage.[9]

With additional markets (digital signage, web and graphic design) Beaver Group grew and in 2006 the Beaver Group moved to offices Ware, Hertfordshire. This allowed Beaver Solutions space to operate it's successful digital signage business and Beaver Design the space to grow the web and graphic design team.[8]

Signature Digital Menus

In late 2008, Beaver Solutions partnered together with industry leaders in digital signage to create a 'one-stop-shop' for digital menu boards - Signature Digital Menus Ltd. Along with Sanyo, Scala, Vogels and Matrox, Beaver Solutions is part of Signature Digital Menus Ltd to provide clients with a complete solution for digital menu boards.[10]

Signature Digital Menus was formally launched on 23rd September 2008.[11] The company is led by business partners Peter Critchley, Barry Thurston (both from Beaver Group) and Tony Ingles.[12] Tony Ingles was previously Managing Director for traditional signage company Dan Display Ltd and is an industry expert in quick service restaurants.[13]

Products

Although they are primarily a solutions company for the provision of services, Beaver Group has so far developed two tools for the provision of digital signage:

Autograph

Autograph is a web-based tool created by Beaver Solutions for managing the content on a digital signage network. It communicates directly with digital sigange software (for example Scala5), allowing users to change content without needing to understand a complete digital signage system.[14] It's principle deployment is in the use of digital menu boards, where restaurant managers want to alter prices and add new items to their menus.[15]

Global Media Manager

Global Media Manager (GMM) is a tool to allow live feeds to go directly into a digital signage network.[16] GMM has been used by companies such as the BBC and NEC, with the digital signage software Scala5 to show information such on the screens without any input from a user.[17]
