David Clarkson (born 10 September 1985 in Bellshill, Scotland) is a professional footballer who plays for Scottish Premier League club Motherwell.

Clarkson made his debut for Motherwell a few days after the club entered administration, as a substitute for Dirk Lehmann during an away SPL match against Kilmarnock on 27 April 2002.[1] He scored on his first starting appearance for the club, at home in an SPL match against Partick Thistle on 2 January 2003.[2]

He scored 13 goals for Motherwell in the 2007–08 season and has become a favourite of many of the fans. During that season, Clarkson's uncle Phil O'Donnell, died from heart failure during a match against Dundee United. Clarkson was later voted player of the year due to his fantastic performances before and after the death of his uncle and the way in which he conducted himself in light of the tragedy. Clarkson is now wearing O'Donnell's old squad number, 10, during the 2008–09 season. His cousin Brian Dempsie previously played for Motherwell and another cousin Stephen O'Donnell currently plays for St. Mirren.

Clarkson was called up by George Burley for Scotland's friendly match against the Czech Republic on 30 May 2008. He told the official Motherwell F.C. website that his late uncle Phil would have been proud of him. He came on as a substitute in the match, and scored Scotland's only goal in the 85th minute when he took down a cross, spun superbly and fired past Czech keeper Petr Cech.
