The book takes place in World War Two when the Nazis invade te Lodz Ghetto it is 1939. Syvia was four and a half year old when it started. When the Jews were all liberated on January 19, 1945 Syvia was ten. When the Holocaust are free there are 800 suvivors. Twelve of them were children. Syvia was one out the other 11 children. This story is true. and Syvia is still living today.
Plot
It is 1939 and the nazis invade Lodz making a ghetto there. Before they invaded Lodz, Syvia(later changed to Silvia to americanize it)and her family live at Lodz. When her father heard that the germans are ivading Lodz. They travel in a buggy to Warsaw. No one rents a home or hire Syvia father. So they return to Lodz. When the German invade Lodz, they build the ghetto and then the Jews moved in. Syvia explains whats life like,her friends,people around the ghetto, jobs, and schedule. First during the extermination of the jews they take children and lie to take them to a safe place. When Syvia's father heard the nazi are nearby they go to the cemetery. Her father digs a hole and hides Syvia on the bottom while he lies on the top. When its morning it is safe. There is also traggic events in the story that happen to Syvia like one of her friend dissapear. and her other friend is killed and burned in the extermination camp.
